Frequently asked questions our Google Pixel

Are refurbished Pixel phones worth buying?

Yes, particularly if camera quality and software longevity matter to you. Pixel phones run stock Android with no manufacturer skin on top, which means a cleaner, faster experience that stays that way over time. Google delivers updates directly to Pixel devices, meaning you get the latest Android version and security patches on day one rather than waiting months for a manufacturer to process them.

The refurbished market makes Pixel phones even more attractive because they depreciate faster than iPhones. A Pixel 8 in refurbished condition can be found at a significant discount compared to its original retail price while still carrying several years of guaranteed software support. If you want a capable Android phone with a great camera and long update support, a cheap Google Pixel from our range is one of the better value options available.

Which refurbished Google Pixel is best to buy in 2026?

The Pixel 8 is the strongest recommendation for most buyers in 2026. It comes with seven years of guaranteed OS and security updates from Google, taking it through to October 2030. The camera is excellent, performance is smooth and the price in refurbished condition is considerably lower than it was at launch. The Pixel 8 Pro offers a slightly better telephoto camera and a larger display if you want the premium version.

If budget is a priority, the Pixel 7a remains a solid choice with security updates covered until May 2028. The Pixel 9 series is worth considering if you want the longest possible support window and the latest Google AI features, though prices in refurbished condition are still relatively high as it’s a newer model. We don’t recommend buying a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro as a new purchase in 2026, as their security updates end in October 2026.

Do Google Pixel phones hold their value?

Honestly, no, not compared to iPhones. Pixel phones depreciate more quickly on the second-hand market, which is one of the reasons they offer such good value when bought refurbished. A Pixel that launched at a high price will typically be available in good refurbished condition for considerably less within 18 to 24 months of release. For someone buying new, this depreciation is a drawback. For someone buying a Google Pixel second-hand, it’s an advantage.

The exception is when a new Pixel model generates strong demand, and the previous generation is still widely sold new. In those periods, the price gap between new and refurbished can narrow temporarily. In general, though, the Pixel range offers better refurbished value for money than almost any comparable Android flagship. This makes it a particularly sensible purchase for buyers who are comfortable shopping used.

Which Google Pixel is the most reliable?

The Pixel 7 series marked a notable improvement in reliability over the Pixel 6. The original Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro used Google's first in-house Tensor chip and experienced a range of issues including connectivity problems, excessive battery drain and some reports of overheating. While many of these were addressed through software updates, the early production runs had a less consistent reputation than Google's later models.

The Pixel 7, 7 Pro and especially the Pixel 8 series are considered substantially more reliable; the Tensor G2 and G3 chips improved stability and thermals considerably. User feedback and repair data both point to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a as the most dependable Pixel models available in refurbished condition right now. If reliability is your main concern, the Pixel 8 series is the safer choice over a cheaper Pixel 6.

What is currently the best Pixel phone?

As of 2026, the Pixel 9 is Google's flagship. It offers the latest Tensor G4 chip, Google's most advanced camera processing and seven years of software support taking it to 2031. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL add a telephoto lens and larger display for buyers who want the full premium experience. All three are strong phones, though they are still relatively new and refurbished prices reflect that.

For most buyers looking at Google Pixel deals, the Pixel 8a sits in a sweet spot. It was released in 2024, carries seven years of update support until May 2031, has an excellent camera for its price and is now available in refurbished condition at a price that makes it one of the best value smartphones in our range. If you want a current-generation Pixel without paying close to new prices, the refurbished Pixel 8a is where you should start.
